ControlMySpa Benefits

Wherever you are in the world—from your couch to another continent—you can control your Marquis hot tub over the Internet. For example, turn on spa lights and therapy jets before a nighttime soak, or monitor your hot tub while travelling. Great for vacation homes. Benefits include:

  • Remote spa control: Remotely control pumps, lighting, temperature settings, filtration schedule and reminders, and MicroSilk® (on equipped models).
  • Remote activation of MicroSilk: The MicroSilk pump takes a few minutes to fully saturate the water with soothing microbubbles. Use the ControlMySpa app to activate MicroSilk ahead of time, so the oxygen cloud is ready to enjoy when your soak begins.
  • Rock-solid connectivity: Radio frequency (RF) creates a strong data connection between the internal Gateway Ultra spa module, and the external Home Side RF module connected to your home Internet router.
  • No Cloud subscription fees: There is no paid subscription to use ControlMySpa, and the app is free to download. All you need is Internet service at your home, and a mobile device connected to the Internet.
  • Backwards compatible: ControlMySpa is compatible with all Marquis® hot tubs and Aquatic Training Vessels™ swim spas made from 2013 and beyond.2

2The only factory-installed wireless option for Celebrity Hot Tubs is the Wi-Fi Transceiver. However, ControlMySpa may be purchased as an aftermarket retrofit for Celebrity Hot Tubs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is my local Marquis Dealer’s CMS Code?

A: Please contact your local Marquis Dealer directly to request their CMS Code. To look up your dealer’s contact information, enter your zip code into our Dealer Locator (click here).

Q: How far apart can the spa module and Home Side RF module be located?

A: The maximum line-of-sight distance between the Gateway Ultra spa module and Home Side RF module is 300 feet (91 meters). However, physical barriers such as walls and metal doors will reduce the maximum distance. Typical installations yield an extremely robust data connection.

Q: Do I need to shut off power supply to my spa before setting up ControlMySpa hardware?

A: The initial registration and setup process must be completed within 20 minutes of powering up your spa. If your spa has been on longer than 20 minutes, you should turn off power supply to the spa and wait a few moments. After powering up the spa, complete the initial registration and setup process within 20 minutes, as outlined in the CMS Quick Start Guide for Spa Owners.

Q: Does the CMS system use a "peer-to-peer" connection, such as Bluetooth or NFC, to control the spa with my mobile device?

A: No, it does not. During the initial setup process only, ControlMySpa uses a Bluetooth connection with your mobile device to register the CMS hardware. Thereafter, the system relies on an active Internet connection to control the spa. The mobile app connects to the Home Side RF module using the Internet. In turn, the Home Side RF module relays data back and forth to the Gateway Ultra spa module to monitor and control the spa.

Q: Do CMS hardware modules utilize my home's Wi-Fi network?

A: No, they do not. The Gateway Ultra spa module (inside the hot tub) connects wirelessly to the Home Side RF module (inside your home) using a radio frequency (RF) connection. The wireless data connection between the two modules is completely independent of your home Wi-Fi network. Of course, you may choose to connect your mobile device (with the app) to your home Wi-Fi network in order to access the Internet. But otherwise, the range of your home Wi-Fi network has nothing to do with the CMS hardware modules.

Q: What if Internet service to my home is disrupted, or my mobile device can’t connect to the Internet?

A: ControlMySpa relies on an active Internet connection. In order to control your spa remotely, both the Home Side RF module and the mobile device (with the app) must be connected to the Internet. If Internet service to your home is disrupted for some reason, the CMS system will go offline until the Internet connection is restored. For all questions regarding Internet service, please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or mobile data carrier.

Q: Can I use more than one mobile device to control my spa?

A: Yes, you can. Multiple devices can control the same spa by installing the app on each mobile device, and logging into the app using the same user ID and password. For example, family members can log into the app on their personal mobile device (using the same user ID and password) and remotely control the same spa.

Q: Can I control more than one spa using the same app login?

A: Not at this time. Each hot tub or swim spa equipped with ControlMySpa requires a separate user ID and password. However, you can use the same mobile device and app, provided you log into the app using the user ID and password associated with the spa you wish to control.

Q: What if I own a Comcast Xfinity or BlueCurve cable Internet router?

A: There is a known conflict with some Comcast Xfinity and BlueCurve cable Internet routers. Balboa® is currently researching the issue. In some cases, connecting a simple Ethernet switch between the Home Side RF module and the home Internet router may resolve the conflict. Otherwise, you may need to purchase a third-party cable Internet modem/router compatible with your Internet Service Provider.

Q: After setting up ControlMySpa, why isn’t my spa’s topside control panel responding to tactile control?

A: If your spa’s topside control panel is a touchscreen, use a dry cloth to wipe away any excess water. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, open the ControlMySpa app and verify that you have not enabled “lock control.” When “lock control” is enabled inside the app, it prevents users from changing settings manually from the topside control panel. Turning off “lock control” in the app should resolve the issue, and once again allow tactile control of the spa's topside control panel.

Q: If I sell my spa, can the next spa owner simply re-register the ControlMySpa hardware?

A: No, they cannot. CMS hardware cannot be registered to multiple spa owners. For example, if you sell your CMS-equipped spa, the next spa owner cannot simply re-register the CMS hardware. The quickest solution is to pay to have both hardware modules replaced. Otherwise, the hardware modules must be sent back to Balboa for reprogramming. This serves to protect the security and privacy of each party.
